PARAS(Y)TE

Not everyone is a fan of movies. I, personally, seldom watch movies, because I prefer reading. That said, it is given that I still have tons of movies to watch to catch up with all the hype. That's why I wasn't expecting anything from the movie, Parasyte.
Parasyte was the first Japanese movie I watched. To be completely frank, at first I wasn't interested in the movie at all, especially after seeing those slithering things. The movie didn't catch my attention from the start and I am one to get bored quickly. Soon, though, I began to get intrigued about the plot. It started to get interesting as it reached the middle, so I decided to actually watch and not just look. As I began to understand what was happening, I realized that the storyline was a lot nicer than I thought. It wasn't cliche in terms of the common alien or zombie story, it actually made sense and was laid out good.

Some of the characters were a bit disturbing, especially the tall, smiling dude—it bothered me how smiley he was, but that's probably the purpose of his character. Also, I want to talk about how cute Migi is for a second. I really liked how unreal Migi looked. Though other people might find it disgusting to have a talking parasite as a hand, I, for one, wouldn't mind, as long as it could do the things Migi could do. Anyway, the other characters of the movie weren't that notable, except for the main character, who showed quite a satisfying development.
As for the visuals of the movie, I was a bit disappointed because a lot of things still looked so cartoonish. Although it made Migi look cute, it didn't really make the other parasites look scary or gut-wrenching, but that's just my opinion. I'm not sure if the others were already disturbed by all the blood and monsters. The movie would have looked more realistic if everything didn't look so edited.
While watching the movie, I was confused a lot of times, but during the end, it all became clear. It was somehow a rollercoaster of "what" and "um.." but overall, I liked how the story played out. During the end, I expected myself to at least tear up because of Shinichi's mom, but I guess I wasn't that attached to the movie. It ended quite abruptly, and that makes me want to watch the second one.
In my opinion, the movie could have been better, but it wasn't bad either. I don't mind watching more movies like this, as long as the plot is good and the visuals are realistic.
